Our Exchange Server has been having issue within the past couple of days in
sending emails to certain domains. I checked the event viewer and weven
been getting the following messages.

Warning message:
This is an SMTP protocol warning log for virtual server ID 1, connection
#118. The remote host "ip address", responded to the SMTP command "rcpt"
with "450 <]>: Client host rejected: "Too many Spam from your IP-Net. Your
Address-Range is blocked. Please use your ISPs mailrelay." ". The full
command sent was "RCPT TO:<email address> ". This may cause the connection
to fail.

Warning Message:
This is an SMTP protocol warning log for virtual server ID 1, connection
#119. The remote host "IPAddress", responded to the SMTP command "rcpt" with
"450 <>: Helo command rejected: Host not found ". The full command sent was
"RCPT TO:<email address> ". This may cause the connection to fail.

Error Message:
This is an SMTP protocol error log for virtual server ID 1, connection #123.
The remote host "ip address", responded to the SMTP command "rcpt" with "550
5.1.1 <email address>... User unknown ". The full command sent was "RCPT
TO:<email address> ". This will probably cause the connection to fail.

The event viewer has been filling up with these sort of messages. Ive tried
microsofts recomendation to no avail. Any help on this matter is greatly
aprreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

It sounds as if your Exchange server has a dynamic public IP address (or an
address that lies within a dynamic IP address). A lot of major mail
providers reject mails from such IP addresses.

Do your ISP offer SMTP relay?

If yes you create a SMTP connector, configure your ISP's SMTP server as a
smart-host and on the address tab enter * and you should be fine. (All your
external emails will then go thru your ISP's SMTP server.

Also it sounds as if you have no PTR record in the public DNS, please make
sure that you get one.

What Microsoft recommendations did you tri?

Leif

In addtion to what Leif said, if you do have a static IP and PTR record then
your IP was blacklisted, check sites such as
