I am running out of space on my Exchange 2000 server. If I move the
mailstore to a separate file server, will it increase network traffic due to
mail being retrieved from the mail store by the Exchange server and then
sent to the client, or will exchange data be sent directly to the client
from the mail store without going through the exchange server? If the
latter is the case, will exchange performance actually increase due to the
faster file server handling the data rather than the older, slower Exchange
server computer.

To summarize, how will performance be impacted by moving the Exchange data
store to a fast file server?

Hi,

It is not possible to move the exchange databases to a file server.

Add some larger disks to the exchange server and move the database to these
new disks.
