Some of our queues going to the internet are unable to maintain a connection
to send email. We set up a packet capture on the email server and forced a
misbehaving queue to make a connection. We got the following results:
Frame 1 Us to them 9777 smtp syn
Frame 2 Them to Us smtp 9777 syn, ack
Frame 3 Us to them 9777 smtp ack
Frame 4 Them to us 3266 auth syn
Frame 5 Us to them auth 3266 rst, ack
Frame 6 Them to us smtp Response 220
Frame 7 Us to them smtp Command EHLO
Frame 8 Them to us smtp 9777 fin, ack
Frame 9 Us to them 9777 smtp ack
Frame 10 Us to them 9777 smtp fin, ack
Frame 11 Them to us smtp 9777 ack
Please help us understand why the connection is being dropped. We are
especially interested in frames 4 and 5. Additional info is available if
necessary.
