Implementing SMTP/TLS

Hi,

I am wondering if there would be a way to deploy SMTP/TLS in a opportunistic
matter? What do I mean by opportunistic matter? I simply want my Exchange
server to try to send the mail using SMTP/TLS at first and if the remote
server doesnt support TLS it will retry with plain, clear text SMTP.

At this moment I got 2 routing groups configured one for SMTP (Clear text)
and the other for SMTP/TLS which I manage the domains (Administration
nightmare)

Thanks for your help in advance,

G.

Exchange 2007 supports this.
If the remote receiving server advertises the STARTTLS command, then
TLS will be used.
On the reverse, Exch 2007 can switch to TLS if the sending server uses
it as well.

No support for Exchange 2000 or 2003?

Not if you want opportunistic. 3rd party gateway solutions would be
required for that.
